It’s a special thing when a child names an adult.
That’s what happened to me. It was my grandson Nelson, who named me. When he started talking, his name for me was “Ding.” Well, it stuck. Pretty soon, everyone was calling me Grandma Ding.
That was 14 years ago.
So, when I decided to launch this business, I had worked out most of the details like my recipes, ordering and selling, adding the commercial kitchen, and so on. But I was stuck on a name. I asked my family for suggestions, and of course, they said it has to be “Grandma Ding’s Fudge.”
So there you have it.
We’ve come a long ways from my first test, selling fudge at the Parkville Market in 2006. We now sell at hospitals and special events throughout the region, plus the Kansas City City Market and our seasonal barn at Pumpkins Etc.
And, as you can see in our family photo, there’s a LOT more children now who call me Grandma Ding!
I hope you like the story of Grandma Ding, and even more, I hope you’ll enjoy my fudge.
